The Editions Department at Phillips offers prints and multiples produced in an edition spanning the 20th and 21st centuries. Modern and Contemporary printmakers come together under one artistically integrated catalogue several times a year in Evening and Day sale formats. Our sophisticated curation of many different styles of works are cogently marketed through our dynamic and scholarly catalogue presentation.
In addition, what sets us apart from other international auction houses’ print departments is our industry-leading gallery space and pre-sale exhibitions. Each work is given sufficient time and wall space designed to showcase its intrinsic beauty and importance, a fact that has been widely commended by the print collecting community. The Editions Department's superior ability orchestrating these sales, marketing and cultivating new collectors is unparalleled in the field.
In 2012, we realized the highest sold totals since the department's inception in 2008, establishing a number of record prices for artists and specific images in each sale. Our exceptional results included works by Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Jasper Johns, Bruce Nauman, Joseph Beuys, Roy Lichtenstein, Henri Matisse, Cy Twombly, Ed Ruscha, Richard Prince, Alexander Calder, Joan Miro, and Marcel Duchamp, among many others. This year also saw the expansion of our European presence with a new department in London, offering two Editions sales a year in the Evening format with the inaugural sale to take place on 27 February 2013
