  • Catalogue Essay

“Evgeny Chubarov’s artistic consciousness is quite unique today despite its formal compatibility with our culture’s multi-layered structures and open dialogue. His art is rich in ideas and conveys the reality of man’s extreme states without shying away form play, from resorting to simulacra, from coded magic symbols, where the codes themselves may be more important than the magic behind them… his art glimmers with recurring messages, occasionally diverting into fortuitous details and deeply personal signs and symbols, but invariably he returns to his fundamental iconography. His work lives in a boundless landscape embracing cities, people, and objects, where everything slides… and disappears…” (V. Patsukov, “The Lost and Found Time of Abstraction”, Evgeny Chubarov – Return to the Abstract, St. Petersburg, 2004, p. 27).
